Albini carga contra la electrónica de baile y XL lo usa de valla publicitaria

Powell, que preguntó a Albini por la utilización de un sampleo suyo, está usando la respuesta de este (una rajada de las suyas) como panel publicitario.

El tiempo pasa, pero Steve Albini permanece tan Albini como siempre. Recientemente, el productor de electrónica Powell (que no es otro que Oscar Powell, director del sello Diagonal) envió un mail a Albini explicándole la utilización de un sampleo suyo, cuánto admiraba su trabajo y especialmente la influencia que Big Black había tenido para él. Lo bueno, para él, es que Albini no puso ningún problema: dijo no importarle lo que hiciera con ello. Lo "malo" es que aprovechó para comentarle lo mucho que odiaba la música electrónica de baile, sus consumidores, sus espacios y en general todo lo que la rodea con su contundencia habitual.

Eso sí, Powell ha conseguido darle la vuelta, tomárselo con un poco de humor y sacarse de la manga una maniobra publicitaria nada desdeñable: ahora ha decidido que el sello con el que publica este trabajo, XL Recordings, utilice esa respuesta como panel publicitario en Londres. Y de los grandes. Por supuesto, también preguntó a Albini por ello, y la respuesta no varió mucho: "sigue sin importarme".

Esta es la respuesta de Albini íntegra:

"I am absolutely the wrong audience for this kind of music. I've always detested mechanized dance music, its stupid simplicity, the clubs where it was played, the people who went to those clubs, the drugs they took, the shit they liked to talk about, the clothes they wore, the battles they fought amongst each other... 

Basically all of it: 100 percent hated every scrap. 

The electronic music I liked was radical and different, shit like the White Noise, Xenakis, Suicide, Kraftwerk, and the earliest stuff form Cabaret Voltaire, SPK and DAF. When that scene and those people got co-opted by dance/club music I felt like we'd lost a war. I detest club culture as deeply as I detest anything on earth.

So I am against what you're into, and an enemy of where you come from but I have no problem with what you're doing. I haven’t bothered listening to the links, mainly because I’m in a hotel with crappy internet at the moment but also because it probably wouldn’t be to my taste and that wouldn’t help either of us.

In other words, you're welcome to do whatever you like with whatever of mine you've gotten your hands on. Don't care. Enjoy yourself.
